About Flying & Trial Flight
Can I take a trial flight without any flying experience?
Yes! No exams, no prior knowledge, and no commitments required. Just a safe, introductory hands-on experience!
In fact, Trial Flights are specifically designed for first-timers with no prior aviation background. You will be seated next to a licensed flight instructor, who will guide you through basic flight controls and may even let you try flying the aircraft under supervision.
It’s a great way to:
- Experience what it’s like to be in the cockpit
- Get a feel for flight training
- Decide if you want to pursue a Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
Is there an age requirement for flying?
Trial Flight
There is no official minimum age set by CAAS for trial flights in Singapore. These introductory sessions are designed for anyone interested in experiencing flying for the first time. Participants must be in good general health, but no formal medical certification is required.
Private Pilot License (PPL)
In Singapore, the minimum age requirement to obtain a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) is 17 years old. PPL is regulated under the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) syllabus and require applicants to pass a CAAS Class 2 medical examination.
What is the difference between a Trial Flight and PPL training?
A Trial Flight is a one-time introductory experience ideal for first-timers, while PPL training is a comprehensive program conducted under the CAAS-approved syllabus, designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to become a certified private pilot.
About Training & Licensing
What are the prerequisites to enroll in the CAAS PPL Training?
To begin training for the CAAS Private Pilot Licence (PPL), you must:
- Be at least 16 years old to start flight training
- Be at least 17 years old to be eligible for license issuance
- Hold a valid Class 2 medical certificate
- Be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently
No prior flying experience is required to enroll.
CAAS PPL Training Overview
Seletar Flying Club conducts Private Pilot License (PPL) training based on the syllabus from Civil Aviation Authority Singapore (CAAS). It combines both theory lessons and in-aircraft flight training, carried out in parallel.
To complete the training, students must pass a written exam, an oral assessment, and a final practical flight examination.
How long does it take to get a CAAS PPL?
Most students complete their CAAS-issued Private Pilot License within 6 to 8 months, depending on weather, personal availability and training.
Can I convert or use my overseas license in Singapore?
It depends on the type of license you hold and the issuing authority. The Civil Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has specific guidelines for converting foreign licenses.
While direct conversion may not always be possible, we do offer FAA Currency Flights for valid FAA license holders looking to maintain recency.
